With its $100,000 Victorinox "Crack the Code" contest, VSA challenged attendees to break into or bypass sophisticated data encryption and fingerprint authentication technology present on two innovative USB flashdrives joining VSA's Swiss Army Knife line: the Victorinox Presentation Master and the Victorinox Secure.
The contest was held live on the CES tradeshow floor in the VSA booth. Although more than 45 attendees made attempts, no one was able to crack the code.
"We were so confident in the design and development of these devices, we were willing to put $100,000 on it," Victorinox Swiss Army President, Rick Taggart, stated. "The fact that no one was able to crack the code really demonstrates the unparalleled security of these new products."
The Victorinox "Crack the Code" contest was open to registered 2010 CES attendees all four days during exhibit show floor hours. Each participant had up to two hours to breach the security function on the device. The contest drew in a variety of participants, including journalists, analysts, gadget enthusiasts and security professionals from Connecticut to California, New York to Oregon. All contest participants received a special gift for their efforts.
